Department Operational Status 3/20/2020

Calaveras County, along with our citizens, continues to navigate the fluid situation caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. County operations will be modified accordingly, consistent with the CDC Interim Guidance for Business and Employers and the current guidance issued by Calaveras County Public Health. In an effort to provide a safe work environment select County services will be delivered through modified service delivery approaches. Specifics for departments will vary slightly given different mandates. Below are Departments that have altered services available, all departments may not be listed so please call or email them prior to visiting the Government Center.

Assessor

As a result of Governor Newsom’s executive orders regarding COVID-19 the Calaveras County Assessor’s Office has closed to the public until the order is lifted. Behavioral Health, Mental Health & Substance Abuse

Board of Supervisors

On March 18, 2020 Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-29-20 which includes a waiver of the Brown Act Provisions requiring physical Presence of the Board or the public in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to COVID-19 and to protect County staff and members of the public, the Board Chambers will be closed to the public during Board of Supervisors meetings.  All Board members will attend the meeting telephonically and participate in the meeting to the same extent as if they were present.

Building & Code Compliance

In compliance with the public health emergency and executive order for Calaveras County, the Building Department is currently closed to visitors.  We will remain fully operational Monday - Friday 8 am – 4 pm, and are available for appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am – 3:30 pm.  Please call to schedule an appointment.

As a precaution to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the Calaveras County Registrar of Voters is not providing service to walk-in customers. To the extent possible we will assist via phone and email. As you know, we are in unprecedented circumstances at this time with COVID-19. In alignment with direction of the Centers for Disease Control, the California Department of Public Health, and the Public Health and Administration Departments of Calaveras County we have changed our operations as follows:

2. We realize that a number of services are best provided through person-to-person interaction with our Permit Tech staff at our front counter. We ask that these interactions be made by appointment by calling (209) 754-6399.

3. We will not turn away people at the door who need our service. However, customers will be admitted one person at a time (or two persons involved in the same project) in order to maintain required social distancing. If you provide us with your cell phone number at the door, we will contact you when counter space is available.

We ask that if you are experiencing any signs of illness, please use options 1 or 2, above and not attempt a person-to-person interaction with our staff.

I am sorry for the inconvenience resulting from these changes, but as the EMA Director, it is my highest priority to put the health of our staff and the senior members of their families first in how we deliver our services.

Human Resources

CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC BEGINNING MARCH 19, 2020

Beginning March 19 and until further notice, the County of Calaveras has transitioned to a temporary and precautionary suspension of non-essential operations as an effort to protect employees and the community by limiting person-to-person contact. While the County of Calaveras Human Resources office is temporarily closed, we will continue to provide essential services in support of job applicants, retirees, County employees, and Departments through electronic means (telephone, email, scan).

Library & Branch Locations

All County Library locations are closed.

You may place HOLDS on items as usual.  You will be called when your item is ready for pick-up. You may pick up your items as follows:

  • Arnold, Murphys, Angels Camp and Copperopolis branches - Wednesday & Thursday 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. 
  • Valley Springs branch - Monday and Friday 10 a.m. – noon. 
  • All holds for Mokelumne Hill, West Point and San Andreas can be picked up in San Andreas Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.- 4 p.m.

If you cannot make the pick-up time at your branch, you can designate pick-up in San Andreas.

All LINK+ services have been suspended by the consortia until further notice.

Tax Collector / Treasurer

The Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office will be open with normal business hours (8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday).

In consideration of the COVID-19 precautions issued by the CDC, we want to keep employees and the public safe by Social-Distancing. We encourage everyone to pay their property taxes without coming to the tax office. Only two payment windows will be open which will limit the spacing between individuals.

Alternate ways to pay:

  • Mail in your check, postmarked on or before April 10, 2020
  • Pay online either by E-Check ($1.50) or credit card (2.38% fee) https://Taxcollector.calaverasgov.us or phone the  automated system at 1(844) 556-7131
  • Pay through your bank's Bill-Pay service. This must be done at least 7 to 10 days in advance of April 10, 2020 to allow your bank's processing system
  • Avoid cash payments: During this time, taxpayers are encouraged NOT make in person cash payments. Please use a personal check or obtain a cashier's check or money order and mail immediately
  • Secure Dropbox is located in the front parking lot and will be available to the public until April 10th at 5:00 p.m.
